Mary-Ann Stevens

Mary-Ann Stevens holds a Bachelor Degree in English Literature and a Graduate Diploma in Fine Art from University of the Arts London. She has completed a Masters of Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art, London, 2021, with distinction. 

Mary-Ann moved to Scarborough in 2021 after completing her MA at Chelsea Art College. She has a studio at the Old Parcels Office Artspace.

Mary-Ann's  work has an edgy, semi-autobiographical narrative, which explores identity and the representation and social expectations of gender. It is characterised by off-beat humour which belies a sense of melancholy. 
Mary-Ann works in a variety of media, including sculpture, painting and video. She currently works primarily in sculpture. The crude, bumpy, construction of her papier-mâché sculptures display a childlike playfulness. The quirky, grotesque characters created are are odd and unconventional, with a vulnerability that engages the viewer.
